I scratched my Bike...?
I had a little tumble with my clipless pedals on the weekend and ended up getting a bit of a scratch on my new bike's paint job. The bike is carbon, and I'm afraid of it rusting. Can I touch it up with those little bottles of car paint you can buy? Or can I use nail polish?
Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!
Metals rust, but carbon fiber isn't a metal. It can be exposed to ultraviolet radiation and age more quickly though. The odds are good that you're fine as long as you didn't hit a sharp corner, but play it safe.
Take the bike back to the dealer. See if:
1. The damage is significant.
2. If they recommend testing by getting it x-ray'd since not all damage is visible with carbon fiber
3. Last if they have a preferred coating. Not all carbon fiber is equal and the manufacturer should be able to provide you with the necessary information. Don't assume that car paint is fine.
