Anyone tell me if that Silver BEar ammo is any good?
Mostly for plinking and varmint/pest shooting.
I use Silver Bear 9x18mm hollow points in my carry pistol. It is very reliable, never encountered a jam or misfire, and from what I have read about it, the ballistics are comparable to the premium ammunitions available from Hornady, Cor-Bon, etc. The HPs also offer a very uniform expansion and good penetration. For plinking and varmint shooting, the rifle calibers in FMJ and HP are probably just as good. The only downside that I have encountered with Silver Bear is it is very dirty, probably due to the combination of the berdan primers and the powder they use, so plan on cleaning your firearm after every few hundred rounds. Still, no dirtier than Wolf ammo. All in all I have been very pleased with the Russian-made Bear line of ammo.
Oh, and for the user who disputed my claim that these use Berdan primers, from www.bearammo.com:
